The long-life air purification unit (LLAPU) bottle located in the rear of the instrument removes moisture and contaminants from the internal air flow of the air lines. The LLAPU performs the same as the air purification unit (APU) (p/n SIB0879) but lasts approximately 5-6 times longer, depending on the location and the environmental conditions under which the instrument is operating when used with an external Drierite® tank. The indicating bottle contains a small amount of blue Drierite and large amount of charcoal. The Drierite turns pink in the large plastic bottle first as it absorbs moisture. Next, the blue Drierite closest to the charcoal turns pink; indicating it is time to install a new indicating bottle and to change the Drierite in the large plastic bottle. Drierite is sold separately (p/n SDR4020) or as a kit (p/n SLK4599). This product has been precisely engineered and both laboratory and field tested to critical standards for use on the IONSCAN® 400B instrument. The depleted LLAPU plastic bottle can be recycled as part of any local recycling program once the contents (non-hazardous) are disposed.
